Turkey Trot Race Recaps

GVSU-Turkey Trot 5k - Saturday November 21 2015

What Crazy weather we get here in Michigan haha. Last week Saturday we ran the GVSU Running club Turkey Trot 5k and it was snowing. This week at the Zeeland 8k Turkey Trot is was raining and 50 degrees outside.

Sara and I have been running the GVSU Turkey Trot since it started 5 Years ago. At the time there were no Thanks Giving Turkey Trot runs in Holland/Zeeland and we really wanted to make point of not having the Holiday be all about food. Plus we LOVE running so it seemed fitting that we find a 5k or something to run. We really enjoy this 5k, it is not a real big race but it is draws a nice crowd and the course is fun because it weaves all around through the GVSU campus. Sara currently goes to GVSU and I graduated from GVSU in 2009. We have run this Race in shorts and T-shirts and in full on snow apparel haha. This year it was kind of in between. It was snowing but the temp was just hovering at freezing so once you get running you warm up fast. The race did not disappoint we had a lot of fun and even talked Dad into joining us.

Zeeland 8k Before you Eat Turkey Trot- November 26 2015

Woke up to 50's and rain.. what the world ?? is going on with the weather HAHA This is the second year Sara and I have run the 8k in Zeeland. Last year it was snowing so hard you could hardly see and this year it was raining and warm, so it was hard to decide what to wear when you know you are going to warm up from running but its raining in November.

Workout Wednesday

Hey,

I hope that you are having a great week so far !!! I woke up the morning and let the dog out and WOW was it nice outside I LOVE this. Last night when I went for a walk there were little reflective light and glow lights all over the sides from people outside enjoying this November heat wave. 

Cardio Combo Class Last night was awesome, if you weren't there you missed out on some super fun kickboxing and punching. 

I have really been enjoying the book Devotions for a healthier you, here is a little excerpt from it. It really puts things into perspective for me.

I hope that your week is off to a good start so far. I am loving this weather that we are having for the first of November upper 60's is great !!! I will enjoy every day of it even if it does get dark early now because of the time change.

Don't forget Tuesdays I have a Cardio Combo class at 7:30 at S&S Fitness in Zeeland come check it out. It is just $5 dollars to drop in and join the fun.

This past weekend at regional's the HC Girls Cross Country team qualified for the State meet as a team. This is so exciting !!! We also have one of the top 3 fastest Girls in the state right now and it has been so exciting to watch her run this past season and get faster and and faster.. it is just amazing!!

Weekend Fun !!
Cross Country meet at Rycenga Park in Spring Lake. One of the Moms took this picture at the meet and Blauw some how manages to stay out of most pictures but she snagged this one before he could get away. XC is the Best. I cant believe the season is almost over.


Family Hike at the Upper Macatawa Natural Area !! We love these trails and it is so pretty in the fall when all the leave are changing colors. It is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Recreating in the Park: Brisk walk to Pine Bend and Back

Hemlock Crossing Nature Education Center
Join us for an exercise- focused, "get out and move" walk to Pine Bend and back. Total mileage is about 3.0 miles. We will have three short water and interpretive stops along the route.
This programs are for those seeking exercise- focused recreation in the parks.

Happenings/Rambeling

Portage Invitational - The Portage invitational is always a looked forward to event by all the XC runners because they almost always PR on this course. The course is nice and wide with no tight turns and few rolling hill, lots of Adrenaline and lots of excitement!!! This year did not disappoint. Our sophomore flyer Kayla was  mentally and physically ready to go for the Women's school record at this meet of 17:55, she went out strong and persevered she powered through the finish line with a 17:54. So FAST so EXCITING !!!


60th Birthday Party- Travis's Dad Turns 60 so they threw him a surprise Birthday Party, I missed the surprise because I was still driving back from Portage but I guess he really was surprised.


Family Pictures-Schrotenboer Family Pictures by the Old Van Raalte House in Holland, apparently that was a popular place for picture taking because there were at least 4 other Families their while we were there taking pictures. Travis's cousins daughter was the photographer and she did a great job, I cant wait to see all the final images.


I am doing it again - 21 Day Fix AGAIN !!!!!
I LOVE this Program and I need it, I need to get my eating back on track. If I don't have all my meals planned out and semi-prepped for the week I struggle through out the week and then I get frustrated and feel guilty. The Challenge Pack is actually on sale this month as well. So if you have been evening thinking about trying this program now is the time to jump in and give it a try.

Runner Problems- A Gu exploded in backpack the other day :( are you kidding me that makes for a iky sticky mess.

Park to Park 1/2 Marathon Recap- Running as a Pacer


Park 2 Park 1/2 Marathon 

So I think that I finally have all the pictures from this run for a race re-cap post. This was my 4th year participating in the Park to Park 1/2 Marathon but this year was different. I was a PACER and super excited about it. I am not going to lie I was a little worried about staying on pace but we had lots of GPS watch's and Map My Run App's going so that helped a lot. A 9:00 minute pace is a nice conversational pace for my sister and I so we really enjoyed being able to chat with other runners and encourage them along the route. When you are a pacer the run is not about "you" its about being out their for other runners. As a pace group we were blessed/honored to be out there as a support person for other runners.

We Made it to the Finish Line, over all we ended up a few seconds off of being exactly on pace our over pace was 8:58. 
When you see the finish it is hard to reign it in sometime because you just want to go !!!!

Happy Wednesday HUMP DAY !!!! 

This is kind of Random but love this black and white pictures of a dandelion. I found it on Pinterest and it caught my eye.

Breakfast Cookie Recipe, these are so yummy !! I wasn't going to eat one but someone at work brought one to my desk from Sasha and I loved it. 


Oatmeal Chocolate Pecan Breakfast Cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 cup reduced-fat canola margarine (8 grams fat per tablespoon), with plant sterols, if desired ( you may also substitute applesauce)
3/4 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 large egg (use a higher omega-3 brand if available) ( or 3 egg whites)
1/4 cup egg substitute
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 cup unbleached white flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground clove
1 1/2 cup 100% whole grain rolled oats
3/4 cup walnut or pecan pieces (coarsely chopped can also be used)
1 cup high-cocoa bittersweet or semisweet mini or regular chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or coat nonstick cookie sheets with canola cooking spray.
2. In large mixing bowl, beat margarine, brown sugar, salt (if desired), and vanilla with electric mixer until well blended and fluffy (about 2 minutes), scraping side of bowl halfway. Beat in egg, then egg substitute.
3. In medium bowl, combine flours, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Add flour mixture all at once to margarine mixture and beat on low speed just until mixed. With wooden spoon, stir in oats, nuts, and     chocolate chips.
4. Use a slightly heaping cookie scoop to drop dough balls (about 3 tablespoons) onto prepared cookie sheets; press down on the balls slightly if you want flatter cookies.
5. Bake 10 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove cookies from oven, cool on wire rack. Store in an airtight container.
Yield: 22 breakfast cookies
Nutrition Information: Per serving:194 calories, 5 g protein, 26 g carbohydrate, 7.5 g fat, 2.6 g saturated fat
